I am not the epitome of luck, but I am the epitome of blessed.

I rarely blog about work, and no one necessarily asked me to, but I feel the need to share about my love for this place on the most appropriate day of love: Valentine's Day. Although I can’t quite pinpoint why I’ve disliked various jobs, I can tell you why I love Squire Creek… On the most loving day of the year! I am unsure who can relate, but my college working career felt like being a blindfolded hamster in someone else’s wheel, making someone else’s money, and learning every industry I didn’t want to work in. I worked 7 jobs in 3 years– some overlapping and some not. I saw the best and worst management. I was hired on the spot one time and let go just as quickly another. I worked in recruitment, resale, HR, marketing, communication and more. I worked in person and remotely, for nonprofits and for-profits. I was exposed to so many industries with every type of goal and clientele. That was my college work experience, and I don’t complain. It all led me here. Simply put, Squire Creek is the best work environment I’ve ever been a part of. I feel complete peace and content. Squire Creek serves over 785 members and various guests from 25+ states. From social, dining, and golf memberships, they offer a community of wellness across the board. I could go on and on, but I’m not here to pitch a membership to you. I’m here to pitch my joy of working to you. The way I came across the job was really miraculous in itself, and I thank God for the position every day on my way to work. The fairness of this culture should not surprise me as much as it does. Many companies could learn a lot from the head management and our leaders. Our greatest weapon of pleasant employment? The members are kind. I cannot sing their praises enough. They’re the type of people that celebrate when you celebrate, empathize when you grieve, and ask ,“How’s ya mama and them?” despite asking the last time they saw you. They retain information and apply their network so well, you can’t help but feel like you’re among family most nights. It’s hard not to pull up a chair and ask, “How are the kids enjoying school?” And when they offer you a bite of their cheesecake– as they do on occasion– it is incredibly hard to say no. When I first joined the team, a Ruston business owner inquired about my origin story. Upon hearing I was from the great Rayville, LA, he promptly exclaimed he knew the place well. Upon describing his rowdy friend group, he mentioned my Aunt Dawn. I told him she was my great aunt and we hit it off. Naturally, my Aunt Dawn does not remember him, but he remembers the fun they got into and had the insight to connect us. There have been a few occasions as such, but that one sticks to me particularly because I was so fresh on the job. Another positive attribute? Our positive wait staff. They are incredibly down to earth and team oriented. At the end of the day, we’re all here to serve and make a living, so we do it together, rather adhesively. The club has such great retention that many of the wait staff stay with us until they graduate college. Their longevity allows them to develop working and personal relationships with our members and one another. Our staff has their own sort of family feel to them. Two of them are actually nicknamed Cousin and Uncle. The group has invited me to go out for drinks or to join them at a bar after hours– and again, it is very hard to say no. Finding the manager/friend balance here is essentially the hardest part of my job. The third greatest part of working at Squire Creek is that they give you what you need, not just in management, but the entire team. They truly take care of their people. Our managers want you to succeed and will not just enable you, but empower you to do that. The world needs more managers like them, certainly. I don’t just mean my camera and computer equipment, either. I mean when I am stuck in an absolute fog and need a mental recovery day. When staff has a large test coming up, or we’ve just been struggling to make it on time. I think I speak on behalf for the whole staff when I say we are checked on. Our managers work with to collaborate and solve our issues, whether they be personal or professional. I cannot express enough thanks for my partners and our team. Little things and big things alike… Ultimately, Squire understands I will not be here forever… but for the time being, we equally invest in one another. I dare call it a wonderful partnership. Working here is empowering, and I love it. I absolutely love every aspect of this country club life. In conclusion, if given the chance to sum up my work life here in 3 words: Loyalty, Empowering, Kind. Happy Valentine’s Day, Squire Creek and #SquireOn!

I didn’t think I would write a “post-graduation” blog. Mostly because I don’t know of anyone who will read it. But here we are: in a genuinely pretty Louisiana Fall, with more than enough faith to just write it anyway. I graduated college six months ago. I’ve been home from Charlotte for 3. And I dare say my life has been sunshine and roses. There are mountain peaks and valleys in life. I am sitting on a mountain top. I am so content with how and where God has placed me. I’ve been able to celebrate Luke, Tallie, and Canton’s birthdays in the best fashion in these three months. I’ve spent some time around LA Tech Eco Car— still. My motorcycle is back home from Charlotte— and she’s fixed (It was just a blown fuse that I didn’t check). I got to spend a quality day in Houston, with my best friend, Priscila! I had a great time for Halloween with my m&m’s for life! And I’ve just had a good time goofing off lately. Above all, life is so much less stressful than when I was in school. Work:I now work at Squire Creek County Club, as the communication director and assistant manager of food and beverage services. I am loving it. Going on three months now... I’ve had some long days, I’ve had some busy days, but I’ve not had a bad day. What a blessing this place and work culture is. More or less, they’ve given me a communication playground. They’ve encouraged me to try new things, see what works, and just have fun with it. My boss is like a second dad, our general manager has the kindest soul, and having a snack with Mr. James Davison every now and then doesn’t hurt. I am surrounded by genuinely kind members that I have so much to learn from. I know without a doubt that Squire Creek is exactly where God wants me for now. I can’t know the future, of course. There may be bigger and equally beautiful opportunities looming around the corner. But as always, I’m going to work as hard as I can right where I am until God opens those doors. Family:To completely switch gears on you… Has anyone noticed how incredibly cute my parents are lately? Every time I’m around them, I’m reminded how sweet true love is— and how perfect God’s plans will be. I hope everyone gets to experience love like theirs at some point in life. If you’ve never seen it… call me. Let’s hang out with Missy and Steve together. My own relationship is doing just fine, for anyone curious. December will make 5 official months. He just finished his last Fall quarter at LA Tech (I got to help him make a whole 97 A in English 102). Only three more quarters to go! Seriously, keep this man in your prayers. He is so diligent, hardworking, intentional, and disciplined. I’m extremely proud of what he’s accomplishing! We went to a wedding this weekend & had a blast! In closing:I’m lucky enough to have some free time around my work schedule. I spend most of it running errands, lounging around, writing blogs like this, taking pictures, and most importantly being with friends and family.
If you’ve read this far, I wish you a happy holiday season! Thanks for taking interest in my life <3 |
